World IPR DAY 2024

Pushpa Gujral Science City celebrated World Intellectual Property Day on April 26, 2024 with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of intellectual property (IP) rights and their role in fostering innovation and creativity, essential for sustainable development. A total of 200 students and teachers from six different educational institutes participated in the event.

Introductory remarks: Dr. Rajesh Grover, Director, Science City, delivered introductory remarks emphasizing the critical role of safeguarding ideas, inventions, and creations in today's dynamic global economy. He linked Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) to a protective shield for valuable assets, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets, crucial for fostering creativity and driving progress across diverse sectors. Subsequently, discussed the necessity of educating the younger generation on the importance of safeguarding different forms of Intellectual Property rights and advocated for the establishment of an enabling environment conducive to nurturing young innovators while ensuring their protection. He emphasized that such measures are imperative for future advancements and encouraged concerted efforts towards this goal.

Expert Talk: Er. Amardev Singh, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Entrepreneurship Development & Industrial Coordination (EDIC) at NITTTR, Chandigarh, was the expert speaker for the event. He delivered a talk titled "New Product and Process Development: A Practicum Oriented to Intellectual Property and SDGs." The talk focused on aligning intellectual property with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and practical approaches to product and process development. He highlighted the importance of intellectual property in innovation and creativity, role of IP in fostering sustainable development and practical strategies for integrating IP into product and process development.

The event provided a platform for interactive sessions, allowing participants to engage with the speaker and clarify their doubts. Students gained valuable knowledge on how to navigate the complex terrain of Intellectual Property Rights, whether as creators or entrepreneurs.
