Mobile Science Exhibition Bus

The much awaited Mobile Science Exhibition Bus was flagged off by the Punjab Chief Minister Sh. Parkash Singh Badal on September 09, 2015 from his residence at Chandigarh. The bus has been started by Pushpa Gujral Science City, Kapurthala, in collaboration with IK Gujral Punjab Technical University and Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Over 3.50 lakh people visit Science City every year, whereas the total population of Punjab is 2 crore. The Science Express train initiated by the Government of India halts only at major stations depriving large number of rural population from the benefits of science and Technology. The idea of mobile science exhibition was, therefore, conceived to reach the unreached so as to inculcate scientific temper in the society in general and rural population in particular. This exhibition is expected to pull out the rural masses from the clutches of superstitions and motivate youth to take up careers in the field of science and technology.

Mobile science exhibition will take science to the doorsteps of rural population and spread the message of science to work towards sustainable development and expose them to some of the emerging and challenging issues”. He further emphasized that Science City through this program would extend outreach of its activities to that section of society who may not be able to afford a visit to the Science City. This program will enable to achieve our intended purpose of spreading scientific awareness to a larger section of the society. He further mentioned that Mobile Science Exhibition would cover all the blocks in 22 districts of the state. An amount of Rs. 65 lac approximately has been spent on this project. The Ministry of Science & Technology, GoI has sanctioned a grant of Rs.52 lacs to Pushpa Gujral Science City for this Mobile Science Exhibition as well as bear recurring expenditure for 2 years.
